Salsa at 18 months, WB at the Santa Cruz KC
Salsa left us today, the result of a brain tumor. Salsa was widely known by her nickname, "Wild Thong," bestowed by an inadvertent Facebook typo by her friend Lisa Barrenger on our trip to the 2011 RRCUS National Specialty in South Dakota. The trip was a comedy of errors, punctuated by a two-day RV breakdown in Nevada, followed by a mad 24-hour dash from Reno to Rapid City. We made it just in time for Lisa to pilot Salsa to Best in Junior Sweeps.
Salsa lived for almost a year in Colorado with Mary Lynne Elliott, who showed her in the Midwest and Mountain States to the Grand Champion Bronze level.
After returning home from her Colorado sojurn, Salsa was brought to the show ring for specialties and other special occasions. She shone in big shows and several large-entry shows was Select Bitch behind only her littermate Molly, Camelot's Red Hot Tamale.
Salsa was dam of four champions, three in America and one in Australia. Her second litter was complicated and there was only one surviving puppy, who was first called "Only" and later was named Willow, Camelot's Once Upon a Time at Sierra Ridge. Salsa terrified us by hauling Only around the house in her mouth. When she decided she wanted to be somewhere else, like my office, or the TV room, or on my bed at night, she would just pick Only up in her mouth and take her to wherever she wanted to be.
She was our problem child, but we love her and will miss her.
