BIS Ch Camelot's Follow The Sun ROM

Our hearts are heavy tonight at Camelot. We lost Marley today at about 9:30 am. She passed away on the operating table while undergoing exploratory surgery to investigate a suspicious mass in her lower abdomen. It turned out to be a highly inflamed pancreas, which had ruptured and the infection had spread to neighboring organs. Although she had been showing mysterious signs for several months, the end came very abruptly. Just Wednesday I took her for a 30-minute walk while the vets were working up some blood tests and we were awaiting the results.

Marley was, of course, BIS Ch Camelot's Follow the Sun, ROM

Marley had a distinguished show career -- BOS at the 2001 National Specialty, Award of Merit at three other specialties, and she was one of only eight RR females to have won an all-breed Best in Show.

She has left an awesome legacy to the breed through her get:

To say nothing of a number of other sons and daughters who are enriching families around the country.

There will be an empty spot on the end of our black leather sofa for some time to come--it was her special place in our home.

If you have a chance, take a last look at Marley's "dashboard photo" on the Camelot web site.

Marley started her show career by going Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex at the Palm Springs KC show on January 4, 1997, at the tender age of six months and three days. She finished with four majors and 16 points before the age of 11 months, then topped off her first year by going BOB over 100 other Ridgebacks, including five of the 1997 top ten, at the Long Beach KC show the weekend of the National Specialty Show. Her biggest week by far was the last week of September, 2001, when she won Best of Opposite Sex at the 70th RRCUS Specialty and followed the next day with Best in Show at the Inland Empire Kennel Club all-breed show. She has continued to show as a veteran and won the Brood Bitch Class at the 2005 RRCUS National Specialty in April. A month later she was Best of Opposite Sex at the San Diego Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Specialty at the age of 8 years and 10 months.
